No problems so far. Signal bars are as they were before the update and network connectivity is fine.

I went home to my parents' house a bit ago, and while I was there I noticed that my iBook G4 has much worse AirPort reception than my girlfriend's iBook G3. I wonder if that's a hardware issue, or if it's a result of a botched AirPort SW update. If I'm really lucky this 3.4.2 will fix it. Here's hoping

I have 1GB RAM arriving tomorrow morning for my 12" Powerbook. Please could someone tell me if this update fixes the Airport issue with PBs with over 1 GB RAM.

Thanks,
BKB.

Just wondering,
Does this update apply to people who have Airort Extreme Cards but not the extreme basestation.
With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)

That's because your gf's iBook doesn't use Airport Extreme. The iBook G3 can only use the original Airport 802.11b card. I have a G3 iBook and the update popped up in software update for me too. I downloaded and installed it. After updating surfing seems faster. Although it's only for Airport Extreme users I can tell a difference on my non Airport Extreme computer.

I know G3 iBooks can't use 802.11g. But are you saying that the iBook G4 gets worse reception because it uses 802.11g? (My test signal was 802.11b, not g.) I've never heard of that.

I installed the 3.4.2 update last night, as soon as it came out. And today I just installed a 1GB RAM chip. So far no problems of any kind with my airport connection. It appears to be just the same as this morning when I was on 256MB RAM.

Good timing Apple,
BKB.

I'm not sure why it showed up on my G4 iMac, as I don't believe it has airport installed.

Oh well, I thought. I'll install it anyway.

Now my iMac doesn't boot. It gets to the Apple logo and stops.

Any suggestions?
