Hi all,

I have just scanned my machine with nmap only to find that three ports are open despite the firewall being on. These are:

PORT STATE SERVICE VERSION
111/tcp open rpcbind 2 (rpc #100000)
887/tcp open netinfobind 1 (rpc #200100001)
1033/tcp open rpc.unknown

Can anyone point me to a resource explaining what those port are for? How can I close them?

Many thanks in advance,
_nmk

Before you get too worried, a question: did you run nmap from the same machine that was being scanned?

Try running it from a different machine. These ports should be open only to the machine itself, and so nmap should not be able to find them from anywhere else. If it can't see them from a different machine, then you're home free.
