Is it possible to move Fink to a hidden folder, such as /.sw? I don't like the fact that it shows up in the Finder. I'd prefer to only see it either in the Terminal, or by using the Go to Folder command.

If it can be moved easily, what is the best way to do this? Will it mess anything up? Will Fink Commander still work?

Thanks,
BKB.

Moving /sw would definitely break things. It turns out there is a nice and elegant way to make /sw disappear, but you'd never figure it out on your own (at least I didn't). There is a file, "/.hidden". Add "sw" to it (I don't know if it needs to be in alphabetical order or not) and then restart the Finder.

type in the terminal:

Code:
sudo /Developer/Tools/SetFile -a V /sw
restart the finder or log out, log in

do a "man SetFile" in the terminal to read more about SetFile

Code:
sudo /Developer/Tools/SetFile -a v /sw
to make it visible again (notice the small V).

After you entered this command, the terminal will ask for your admin password.

I used Wataru's method and it worked fine.

Thank you both,
BKB.

I find the .hidden method to be more elegant, but yes, there is also the visibility flag.

Fink should do this automatically. Or at least add it in their Readme file/FAQ.
