I'm trying to understand this but I'm sure someone here will have a quicker, more definitive answer for me than "because"...

1st off, I have no issues doing backups with tsmc for linux/unix and ghost for win XP Pro... all with encrypted files/filesystems... w/ no issues... but now I'd like to be able to do a complete backup of my boot disk w/ CCC. It just does not work... it fails in the middle of process, always at the /home directory... is there an app, perhaps bru? that will do a *complete* backup w/o me having to move my /home to a different disk? thx in advance!

If you have Panther, use Apple's Disk Utility and it's Restore function to clone your HD. It's been much more reliable for me.

Second, is you home directory encrypted? (Are you using File Vault?) If so, that my explain why CCC fails, since it doesn't know how to hand the disk image that is your home directory.

Exaclty... that's what I'm after something that will copy w/ filevault protection on... Are you saying then that this is possible w/ Apple's disk utility.

I was able to successfully clone a hard drive with a FileVault protected home directory using Carbon Copy Cloner. Worked fine.

Dunno. What ever the newest is (was). Did it about 2 weeks ago, and downloaded it when I needed it.

Cloned my 12" PB on to my DP500 after I fooked up the boot partition on the DP500.

Worked just fine.
