I have my screen saver set to show my iPhoto folder (whch conttains only 200 photos). But when it engages the screen goes black for a full 2 minutes before the photos start. If I create an album in iPhoto called ALL PICTURES and set that as the target folder, it goes black for only 12 seconds before the photos start. With everyone else I know, the library begins showing immediately upon the screen saver engaging.

Thoughts

Thank you.

Do you have a lot of subfolders, whereas your friends don't? The by-folder slideshow probably has to search all levels of the selected directory, while the album slideshow doesn't.
