I use a working directory frequently that is pretty deep within my home directory. Is there a way to make it so that I can just type 'cd project' or similar and get taken to that directory so that I don't have to navigate to it all the time?

thanks,
kman

Use symlinks. In your home directory type this:
Code:
ln -s path/to/target/directory project
then
Code:
cd project
don't forget the -s
