Haven't had one since like 10.1 . I was just doing video chat in iChat and using AIM at the same time when it happened.

blame AOL - never had a kernel panic.

AOL doesn't install any kernel extensions, so I don't know how they could be responsible for mucking up the kernel's memory space.

I also had a kernel panic a couple of months ago. My first in a long, long time. Like over a year.

Hasn't happened again and I'm not concerned in the least.

It might have been just a stray tachyon wiping out your memory. Feel fortunate, as do I that they don't occur more frequently.
I probably have had maybe 5 KPs on all my Macs, going back to the 1st Public Beta. But that does not include my tiPB, where upon inserting the Orinoco wireless card, a KP would occur every time.

I do not recall a KP since at least a year. Indeed I've been running my old PB quite intensively during the last month 24/7 with no problems at all. Super happy with panther.

Strange. Same thing happened to me, though under different circumstances. I've had my computer for three years. And I've had two kernel panics, but they were over a year ago. Now, within a single week, I've had two KPs.

The first one occurred when I installed 10.3.4 via Software Update. When the install was done, it asked me to restart. The kernel panic occurred when I clicked "Restart."

The second one occurred today while I was emptying the trashed. I had dragged about 800 MBs of files from an external firewire drive to the trash. My computer kernel panicked about halfway through emptying the trash.

I hope these KPs aren't symptoms of some component failure on my machine.

I am sorry for the stupid question, but what exactly happens when you get a kernel panic. My Quicksilver is having some problems and they just started occuring. When I plug in my Peerless HD The screen gets a little grayer and the center of it gets dark gray and says something along the lines of 'An error has occured and you must shut down your computer' in like three languages. Any ideas?

Had first KP since 10.2.4 the other day (running 10.3.4 now). Was logging out, FileVault was recovering free space. It either happened during the recovery or after it finished. When I restarted everything was ok.

I can't remember the last time I had this KP you speak of. It was around 10.2.1 maybe. Definitely haven't had any since 10.3.

Not that it matters, but in the days of the old Apple //e (IIe), if you ran the self test on the machine (solid apple-control-reset for those with IIe's that want to try this), and it passed, the machine would say "KERNAL OK"

so a kernel panic will leave a message on ur screen in 3 seperate languages? what do u call it when the computer's usage just stays at 100. i think i am stillhaving that problem, while i just avoid it outright. i'm going to get applecare and then bring this sucker in, it isnt bothering me too much as i just use iphoto to load all pictures instead of actually going into the pictures folder (200 pics would lag the computer to 100 usage forever, is hit the preview picture feature they have for the icon?
