I'm finding some of my icons aren't matching up with their apps

Examples:

.m4a file is showing up as MSN messenger icon
.sit files are showing up as photoshop preview icons

Yet the files still know to open up with their appropriate apps

In OS 9 this was fixed by rebuilding the desktop, but I'm not aware of any desktop file like that in X - does anyone know how to fix this?

This is a known issue. There is no fix, other than to reboot (icon funkiness is not permanent).
