i have a powerbook g4 12in combi. I have been using my iomega 40gb external hard disk for the last month or so on this machine without problems. However, since yesterday, the hdd refuses to mount and the computer will neither shut down or restart, this has to be done manually by pressing the power button. Does anyone have any clues about fixing the problem? I have been through all the basic troubleshooting procedures ie, repairing permissions, zapping pram, deleting cache etc. Do you think i may need to reformat the external hdd and if so how is this done? Any help would be appreciated as this is bugging me out. Also, this happened once before and it was down to a couple of dodgy fonts. I have been through all my fonts and its not that this time.

I don’t know whether you need to reformat the external HDD or not, but if you do just use Disk Utility in Applications: Utilities.

You may also try DiskWarrior or Drive 10 on that drive first to see if you can save whats on there. There is another app I haven't got to try, but its called "Mount Me" Let me get the url for ya. Mount Me . This may help ya too. Good luck! - Grady
