Hey guys,

I've just purchased my first Apple, a spiffy 12" PB. I've been using it for a few days now but it's giving me some trouble. I was using software update and the computer froze. I held down the power key for five seconds to get it off and when I put it back on, OSX won't get past the boot screen saying it's "Waiting for Printing Services." I'm not sure what to do, the PB has been stuck on this screen for about 10 minutes now. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Ouch, sorry to hear about that. If something went wrong during a software update, odds are it probably corrupted some of the system files it was updating. I would do an Archive and Install. Boot from the Software and Restore CD that came with your Mac, go to the Mac OS X installer, click Options, and choose Archive and Install. This will put a fresh clean OS on your disk. After you are done with this, boot from the hard drive and run Software Update again.

Oh, and you don't need to reformat your hard drive, so don't let anyone tell you that.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
