hey mac peoples
I'm wondering what your experiences have been in using the local iDisk as just an ordinary documents folder. I think it's a cool idea that I could get my documents from anywhere, and am thinking about using it to store them all.
Any caveats? Suggestions?
My documents are basically just Word files, and my MacJournal files. Sounds like a cool way to have a sync-able MacJournal, available from two Macs!

I don't have any problems using iDisk just as I would use a standard local volume, but I only use high quality Internet connections. If you're using dial-up it could be a pain.

How about Backing up those files? Do you still do that?
I probably wouldn't use Backup for this, because I think it's terrible. But what happens if I just drag my User folder to an external firewire drive. Will it bring the local iDisk stuff with it?
All around, the local iDisk seems smarter than Backup, for providing a simlar feature. But I still want to make regular backups via iPod and my FW drive.

I think he means this (note: "Create local copy of your iDisk" checkbox checked ON)
... which translates into this on your desktop -- a local copy of your iDisk that can be synched to your .mac iDisk automatically or manually.

Wow....never heard of that. Of course, I cancelled my .MAC account when they started charging for it. That seems like a cool idea.

It's actually an awesome idea. It allows you to use your documents from anywhere (mac or PC) and have them synced up.
This allows for cool things like storing your MacJournal files ont he local iDisk, and having a sycned MacJournal from multiple Macs! Very cool.
I'm having a little trouble, though. Most of my files have been uploaded/synced, but it keeps telling me it can't sync certain ones because I don't have enough space. However, I only put 60 megs of documents, and Finder tells me I have 40 megs free.
anyone else have this trouble? I've also had premissions errors....

There is a bug in the Finder. It does not report the amount of iDisk free space accurately. I have 2 mb free (from Sys Prefs/.mac/iDisk), which is correct. The Finder reports 50 mb free. I wish it were that much. I sent Apple feedback.
