Okay, here goes. I recently REinstalled Jaguar onto my machine. When I try to load Jaguar it asks for a password. There is no user account setup. I tried to change the password several times and nothing works.

What do I do?

Boot from the install CD and choose Reset Password from one of the menus (can't remember which one it's in at the moment).

If that doesn't work:

1. Boot up with the Command and S keys held down to enter Single-User Mode.

2. Type these commands:

fsck -f

mount -uw /

cd /var/db

rm .AppleSetupDone

reboot

That should get you into the Setup Assistant.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Thanks for the tip, I tried it 3 times to no avail. I really need some help, I'm locked out of the OS X portion of my mac and I need access ASAP.

When you typed rm .AppleSetupDone, did you make sure to include the dot in front of .AppleSetupDone?

Seriously, if you get rid of that file, you should reboot into the Setup Assistant.

I think one of the problems is that I don't know about the exact spacing of the commands that you've given me. I need exact spacing and I'll try it again.
