Hi,

Since I applied the 10.3.4 update to my Dual 2.0 (1.5gb ram, 9800 pro retail, Adaptec 4 port USB 2.0 card, ms intellimouse explorer) I have been getting the dreaded 'grey screen of death' (you need to restart your computer) when attempting to put the machine to sleep for the second or third time after a fresh boot.

I've tried applying the 10.3.4 combo update, running all the maintenance scripts in cocktail, running diskwarrior and resetting the cuda switch, all to no avail.

I have a second install of Panther (10.3.3) on another partition and it seems to be free of this annoyance.

Anyone have a suggestion what to do?

I'd pull the Adaptec card first and see if that fixes the problem, if not, I would leave the card out and then remove the MS hardware and use the original Apple hardware. It most likely is one or both of these items. I have the same system only my video card is the retail R9800 PRO SE, I also boot from a ATTO SCSI card and have a Belkin USB 2.0 hub installed. Also have a Kensington Wireless Turbo Mouse PRO.

So it sounds like I have more stuff to muck up my system & I have absolutely no problems with sleep in any form or fashion.

I think I've solved the problem.

I have a kvm switch that I use to switch btwn my PC and Mac. I have a Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard attached to that. I wish Apple would make a keyboard like this as an option, just as I wish they'd make a multi button scroll wheel mouse available as an option. I love to sit back in my office chair with my feet on the desk and type away. This is impossible to do with the surroundless G5 keyboard.

I've never been able to successfully map the command and option keys to the MS keyboard through the kvm however, so I also had the Apple keyboard attached directly to the Mac so that I could use those keys while taking a photoshop class.

Under 10.3.3, putting the machine to sleep with both keyboards connected was not a problem. For some reason under 10.3.4 this results in the 'grey screen of death'. Disconnecting the Apple keyboard fixed it.
