my current version of boot HD is 10.3.4

as I understand it, to run FirstAAid, I have to boot from the 10.3 CD (first of three I got when getting OS 10)

is that first aid the current one?

You can boot from the 10.3 CD or run fsck from single user mode. Single user mode is covered in detail if you search.
