I have an eMac that I want to transfer data from to a new iBook. Do I start the eMac and then start the iBook in target mode, and how long does it take for the info to come over? I think I did it right, but only a partial iPhoto folder came over. I was also wondering how to migrate the AddressBook contacts and Mail. Thanks for any help.

If you are replacing your eMac with the iBook, the best way to do this would be to start the iBook in target disk mode and plug it into the eMac. Then use disk utility to format the iBook hard drive. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy your entire eMac hard drive over to the iBook.
If you are not migrating your system, then you should just be able to drag and drop the files you want to move.

Are you thinking about the new transfer program that the new Power Macs have? This isn't on other new macs, afaik. If you have data you want to move over, I recommend starting the emac in fw tdm and copy the files/data this way.
you should be able to export your address book data and also copy over the Mail folder found inside your user library folder.

yes, that is the most elegant solution. But can CCC handle file vault yet as the source?

I'd imagine it'll just copy the FileVault sparseimage over.
