Listen, I downloaded Fruit Menu this morning and it's cool and all, but the most COOL thing aboug it... is how much faster menus feel "fading" turned off. But, I ran into a problem. Is there a hack that can do this without using Fruit Menu? I don't wanna pay for Fruit Menu JUST to use the fade feature. There's gotta be something around I can hack into and turn it off.

If anyone can figure this out... Give me a hollah!

No it doesn't, but I figured out something...

Install FruitMenu then turn off menu fading. Then uninstall FruitMenu. THE SETTINGS ARE STILL SAVED even when you have FruitMenu uninstalled. I wonder where it saves it to?

Okay, I just found out... even though I uninstalled the pref pane... the Ape was still running. So I turned that off and everything is back to normal. I think it modifies the System UI Server.app

It doesn't have anything to do with SystemUIServer.app. Application menus (as opposed to Menu Extras) behave the same even if SystemUIServer isn't running. Since we already know that FruitMenu patches the Carbon menu-handling protocols, I think it's reasonable to say that's what it's doing here.
