iTunes Playback in G5

I have a new Rev B. G5 w/ 2.5 GB of RAM, having just sold my Dual 1.42 GHz G4. Oddly enough one of the things I notice is sloppy iTunes playback.

At times some of my tracks stall, much like a cassette tape player would if a battery was running low. Also, I notice alot more pops in the mp3 files.
It's intermittent, thankfully but not something I'd expect from a G5 AT all.

I'm using the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks w/ USB.
This sound crazy? Any ideas why?

(I'm compressing my CDs using MP3 and not AAC, though I never had a problem w/ that before on my G4.)

Thoughts?

Are you sure you're not running any other processor-intensive programs? Check Activity Viewer to see what % each process is taking up.

Have you noticed whether these issues occur in the same location in the music files? Have you tried running a surface scan on your hard drive? Checking your RAM?

The forum descriptions are unambiguously clear as to the fact that iTunes threads DO NOT belong in the OS X forum!!!
