I looked around but i haven't been able to find much help for my friend apparently she dragged and dropped and mp3 file from a website which she can't remember the name of anymore and now she wants to remove it but when she drags it to her trash it tells her it is being used by another task. I tried to see if the file was running using the top command in the terminal but it wasn't alsoi tried deleting it manually using rm <filename> but it said missing name for redirect.

Any suggestions ladies and gentlemen because i am a little stumped on this one.

Log out. That will shut down all tasks. Then log back in and delete it.

Well i wish it was that easy. Apparently she has already tried this i was hoping the following would assist her (SetFile -t "blah" garbage.mp3} but it didn't apparently she is running os x 10.2.6 would that make that much of a difference in what commands can be ran from the terminal? It told her command not found.

SetFile is only available if the Developer tools are installed. But you might try this:
