So I'm a big giant moron and after reseting my password I forgot what it was. So I went in with the OS X CD and reset it easily. I booted back into OS X and the password I reset it to didn't work. So then I went back and removed the .AppleSetupDone file, went into OS X and re-filled out all of that info. I can now log in as myself, but I can't look at my own files, and almost all my apps quit when I try to open them. I can see my documents, music, movies, etc. folders, but I'm not allowed to look inside because I don't have enough access privalges. I'm assuming this is what is messing up applications, because they can't see what's in the Library folder. The only folder I can see in is the Sites folder, where I can see everything. I looked in OS 9 and everything's still there so I can't figure out what's wrong. Any ideas? I can get into OS9 and I have another user with admin privalges, if that helps any.

MacBuddy probably created a user with the same name and a new uid
It sounds like it shouldn't do that - I thought that short names should be unique.
In any case, if that is what it did then some of the documents in your home folder will have the old uid ( probably 501) and your new user of the same name will have a new uid ( prob 503).
You can verify that by using the terminal. It seems like there was a missing step here.
My understanding of your steps is that you filled in MacBuddy with the same name and info as before, but it should not have left you do this unless the netinfo database was corrupted.

Wait! I remember now that my original full name was my first and last name with a space, but it auto-filled my new one without a space. So what you're saying is that there are two users with one nickname right? How do I fix this?

I am not sure that that is the answer. Using your admin user, can you log in and see how many users there are in /Users/

There are two users- me and my sister. I'm stuck now. I've tried different things, but I have no idea what to do. Would it be possible to create a new user to be the owner, transfer all of my documents over there, then delete my current owner? I don't really care about my prefs...I can reset all of those. Reinstalling OS X isn't an option, because I don't have enough drive space.

Log in as root, and go the old user folder (the one you can't access.) Then do a Get Info on that, and change the owner of that folder to match you. Click on "Apply to enclosed items." Once you have become the owner of all the files and folders in your old homefolder, you shoulde be able to copy them over to your new homefolder.
Alternatively, use Netinfo Manager, and change the UID of you new account to match that of your old. That should also give you access to your old docs.

I went in under OS 9 and switched everything over to my new user, and it's working fine, except for one thing: I no longer have seperation in iPhoto. I have 1212 pictures, not organized by import date. What's wrong?

Okay, I think the problem with iPhoto is that every folder in my home is owned by "daemon." I could manually change the ownership of every single folder, but that got old quickly. And pressing "Apply to enclosed items" didn't do a thing. Every enclosed item was still owned by daemon. Is there a way to mass-change ownership?
