On very rare occasions i would like to put two different paragraphs on the clip board. Can OS now do this?

Depends on the program you're using. If it can select two paragraphs, then you can copy two paragraphs. Most programs do this by using the command key to select subsequent portions of discontiguous text.

So, no, the OS itself does not have a multiple-item clipboard, although it apparently does "support" that function, because a variety of apps can do so. For example, MS Office has a multi-item (24?) clipboard. There's a utility called copy/paste that among other things functions as a multi-item clipboard. Used to be a menubar item called PTH Pasteboard or something like that, but now that app has been rolled into one of You Software's bloated utilities -- still fucntions but not, is my experience, as cleanly or quickly, as it is bundled with a bunch of other functions for which I have no use.

Thanks, DL -- I had not yet heard of QS.

Now I just wish that I were home with my Powerbook to DL and play with QS, instead of in Texas on business travel with my office-supplied Dell. Ah, well, at least the hotel has broadband available...

Multiple clipboards are interesting but Apple have never implemented it, probably for usability reasons.

Drag and Drop is my preferred method of cross app data transfer, with expose, its lovely.

Thanks for replies. QS is beta/unstable, so I'll pass.

The exact scenario actually occurred on this forum, in Safari!

I typed up a long reply to a post, and went to post, but macNN, said I had to enter a subject. That is a bug I see on various forums -- usually you should not have to do that!

So I hit back button to retrieve the subject and when I came back my long reply was gone.

What software would have enabled me to copy my reply, then hit back button, and then also copied the subject?

I love this multi clipboard app .. worth a look

iClip
http://inventive.us/iClip/

With iClip, you quickly store, organize and access bits of information that just aren't practical to save as entire documents. It allows you to quickly copy & paste and drag & drop clippings to and from its multiple "clipping bins" so that you can easily access them in the applications you're using. The clippings can be of various types such as text, pictures, Internet locations, sounds, and more. Clippings can be organized into unlimited groups called "clipping sets" to help you keep all of your clippings neatly arranged. Since the Scrapbook application that was in older Mac OS versions isn‚t a part of Mac OS X, iClip can conveniently serve as a replacement for it. You stay focused on the tasks you're accomplishing while saving time and streamlining your workflow.
