A friend of mine made an interesting comment on the soon to be available, Maya Complete package. Will the G5s be enough to compete with cheaper Windwos based systems running Maya? He sent me this link:

Maya 6 isn't included in those benchmarks. It was my understanding that Maya 6 contained many performance enhancements for Macs.

Indeed. I think it's a good sign they're establishing a commitment to the OSX platform. I'd be surprised if the performance didn't increase substantially. I just fear the prices will too.

Yeah, I was thinking they would probably include processor specific (G5) optimization code to improve performance on the high end machines. It would not be really good if the new Maya Unlimited would still be noticably slower on Macs than other high end PCs.

Hi all,
cool that Maya Unlimited is coming out for the mac, Ive been using the complete version for sometime now and really would love the extras like dynamics, fur(I know there's shave and haircut), cloth(I know there's syflex) just to name a few. Oh and since Maya 6 was rewritten in mach-o plugs and stuff can be made in xcode, not to mention that it's much faster now.

Im about to render that scene from the link - for kicks Im gonna render on my TiBook.
