Hi all,

A lot of our Mac users have Apple Cinema Displays connected to their PBs. Through the Displays control panel, you can set the layout of the desktop across both monitors, where the menu bar will be, etc.

After a restart, however, this setting does not stick and they have to go back into the control panel, and move everything back to where it was.

Is there a way to make this setting stick after a restart? FYI, our users are standard users, not admins, on their machines.

Thanks!

I don't know if this will work, but I had the hack for my ibook and I found out that the monitor has to be on first then the computer.

So turn on the extra screen, then your computer.

Maybe it has something to do with them being standard users, because on my PB, the settings stick. (It even remembers separate settings for TV and DVI/VGA output.)

See what happens if you temporarily make a user who is having this problem an admin, change the settings, and then switch them back to a normal user.

i have problems with this all the time. i use a powerbook which i'm constantly connecting and disconnecting from an external monitor at home and and at my work. about one time in ten the monitor settings mess up but most of the time it's the colour profiles. the monitors will default to the built-in default profile and i have to open the control panel and click on my custom profiles [even tho' they're on the face of it they're still selected] for each monitor in turn, to return them to using their proper assigned custom profile. it drives me feckin' mad!!!
