Hi,

I have 2 hard drives. Before I used to have Classic on one of them (external) and OS X in successive versions on the other (internal). Then (for some reason) I deleted the Classic system, reformatted the hard drives and just installed OS X on the internal. So: the firmware was updated and I've heard that this is part of the problem...?

My problem is that I would really like (again) to have Classic on the external drive (or the internal, doesn't matter really), I currently have a install cd with OS 9.2.2 I think. BUT: even if I put the cd in and choose the 9.2.2 cd as the startup disk - it just won't boot from it.

My Q: HOW DO I USE A 9.2.2 INSTALL CD TO PUT A CLASSIC SYSTEM ON MY HARD DRIVE?

I would very very much appreciate an intuitive guide for doing this;-)

Regards/Henrik Asplund

Your Software Restore disc(s) should have classic os 9(.2) on them. You can just run the software restore app, or if you know how you view hidden files and folders, you may install just os 9.

Anyhow, this question is asked pretty much every week - take a look at

cheers!

If you own a newer Mac, you won't be able to boot into OS 9. All newer models come with Classic on one of the OS CDs. I believe it was included on my G5's Hardware Test CD, but I could be wrong. I didn't have to install Classic separately since it was taken from my iBook when I transferred its hard drive's contents using the new setup assistant.

I keep classic on a Disk Image that mounts whenever I need to run it using this method. It works great and keeps my system clean. When you are done you just eject the mounted image.
