Hello
in the past week or so I ve noticed from time to time that my icons in list view of files ( a few) have been corrupted, the file work, and it goes away with a reboot.
should I be concerned? this never happend before. a couple of times they ever were not there.
this is only one or two, but do I have a progessive, devistating terminal disease here? why now??
OS 10.3.4
G4dual 1gz 788ram lots of HD
thanks rotut

As I recall, many people used to have this same problem, but that was back with 10.1. Unfortunately, Finder is still an iffy app, and I know there are still problems with icons, so I can't say I'm too surprised to hear about this. It could be an indication of something worse, but most likely it's just a dumb bug.

A simple search would have answered your question.
It's a known problem. Restart the Finder to fix it (temporarily). There is no permanent fix.

The easiest way I know is to force quit it. Call up the force quit dialog either with the key combo (command+option+escape) or from the Apple menu. You can also kill it from the command line or with Activity Monitor.
I've never had another application go wonky because of a Finder restart, so I think you're in the clear. The only sideffects I know of are that you lose the Finder windows you had open, and Finder will do the annoying thing where the first window you open has the wrong column sizes if you're in Column view.

I think the easiest way is to option-control-click on the Finder icon in the Dock. It'll add a "Relaunch" option to the menu.
