what needs to be pressed at startup to select what disk to boot from?

my eMac is trying to boot from the network, I need to get it changed back to the internal hard drive

Option (Alt).

Then go into System Prefs and change it there.

when I do this it boots to a blank screen with 2 square boxes, one with an arrow pointing and one with a arrow going in a circle, neither seem to do anything...


what am I doing wrong?

the internal hard drive worked fine before... how do I get it to boot from the cd? are the install disks for 10.2 bootable?

the install disc are bootable. either hold down option or c while it's in the drive and the computer is booting up.

If all he's seeing in Startup Manager (the official name of the option-key disk selector) is the refresh (chasing arrow) and continue (straight arrow) buttons, then the computer is not seeing ANY bootable volumes at all, and that is where the diagnostics need to pick up.
