How do you know it's not a firewall? They might have all ports but port 80 (web) blocked. Often, hotel systems have very limited access until you purchase a connection.

It would take a very long and technical description to tell you how to find out. So, the easiest thing is to find out who at the resort or their service provider can tell you about how it's setup.

Well if there was a firewall the paper would have told me pluse I don't think i would be able to write this with the firewall on or surf the net.
Things I can do
surf the net but thats it. no chatting with ichat or yahoo no e mail and no ml mac

I opened all ports from like 20 -5000 thats plently.

Check menu "mailbox" and check and make sure Online is checked!

If mail tried to connect and internet and connection was denied, it will work off line..... sometimes the obvious is not looked at!

dude, you're not listening. It doesn't matter if you open your ports--they might block outside communication on them. So it won't work.

Teh interweb works l33t on p0rt 80.

Well, when you get this mystery figured out, you can add the solution to the networking book you're working on. How's that coming, by the way? Have a title yet? I'd ask you to email me some excerpts, but I know how difficult that can be...
