OS X 10.3.4 on Al PB 15" with 60 GB HD and 1.25 GB RAM

For the heck of it, I decided to try out FileVault for the first time after hearing bad things about deleted files/preferences. After about 2 hours (of encryption), the system hung on the verficiation step and came back with an error that read something like "Verficiation failed. FileVault will remain off for this user" or something like that.

I have 22 GB free space on my comp, and my home directory is 14 GB in size. I have sharing turned on (personal, web, SSH, and Windows sharing) in the Sharing preferences.


Any idea as to what might be causing the problem?
