well had panther insalled on my mac and it was nothing but problems (could not stay on network, would not remember pref, ect and I just got so sick of it) so I got my old jag disks and did a os change. Now I can't find any of my old e-mails in microsoft entourage, I'm freaking out...I have never lost anything on an upgrade...does a downgrade just lose it all? Man I am so freeking out I'm not even...I'm just sick
wow I just feel sick....those e-mails, and addresses are everthing to me...my income...what do I need to check for? wow this is going to be the end of me of I can't get my files. I can't even think straight so I will end this here

Not to sound like a heartless bastard, but if the files are so important you would have a back-up of them.

As for your problem, have you lost everything else or just these files? I have never down a downgrade, and when I upgrade I go for the clean install so I have absolutley zero experience in this.

However maybe using something like OmniDiskSweeper might help you track down the files. By the sounds of it they should take up a bit of space on the HD.

Hope all goes well.....

That's bad news.

How did you Reinstall Jaguar? Its been awhile but I know that Panther offers an archive and install. Was this available for you?

It sounds like you may have select a "clean" install which means it wipes out your home directory (which holds your email and addresses).

If that was the case then your only option is to restore from a backup - provided that you have one.

Apple never really designed OSX to be downgraded.

I don't remember exactly, but I don't think you can downgrade any way other than a clean install. In that case, you certainly did lose everything.

You should have backed your stuff up.

Hi all....well I'm not so freeked out after sleeping it off (long day 15+hours of work)...this was on a g4 350mhz upgraded to 1.2ghz with 1 gig ram. I did the archive install were it saved the old system in a folder. I also have the entourage backup cd of my files and now it is not loading. I also found it on the previous system folder and it's not loading either. not sure what other files I need to move to the new system to get the e-mail to work. I have the entourage archive on cd plus I have the old system files in a "Previous Systems" folder. anything I am doing wrong....thanks all

If you have the files, then all you should need to do is put them in the proper place. I don't know where that is, since I don't use Entourage.

a few thoughts...
osx does not officially support processor upgrades (why you were probably having problems in 10.3; i've seen this before)

also not an entourage user, but search your user folder (library, probably) for you files.

you should probably re-install apps (like entourage), then find the actual email file from before.

hard to do over the internet, but hope this helps!
