For the past several days whenever I try and connect my iBook to the internet via dialup, my modem (or modem software) fails to authenticate. It will get to the "authenticating" phase, and then just sit there until it times out and I get a message like "a modem error has occurred". This goes on several times in a row as I try and connect.
The really odd thing is that if I open up the modem control pane and change anything it will connect fine on the next try. I have retyped the password, changed the type of modem, checked/unchecked the "error correction", etc. It doesn't matter what I do as long as something is changed, then it will connect on the very next try.
Am I going crazy, or does this sound like a real problem? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this (other than changing something in the modem pane every time I want to connect)?
