Hi All,

Can anybody ftp from within Safari? I've never been able to (I'm talking downloads here).

e.g. I was just at a driver site, and clicked on an ftp link, and it timed out. The same link works fine with stand-alone ftp clients, and explorer.

I'm running a just-delivered rev b. G5 (2.0), OSX 10.3.4.

As an aside, I tried to mount the server in question in the Finder, and I really don't know what to put when it asks for username password (it's an anonymous server). Suggestions? (username "anonymous" and no password don't work).

Thanks in advance for any help,

Chas

oops, never mind, just determined that it was my router's fault.

Still can't ftp to the same address in the Finder though (now I just get an error instead of a request for password)

Safari does not support FTP internally. I must say that I agree wholeheartedly with this decision, as this would bloat the browser.

However, there is one problem, not with the concept but with Safari itself. It wouldn't be an issue if Safari honored the user's settings for their preferred FTP client. Unfortunately, it insists on using the Finder for FTP, and the Finder's FTP support sucks quite badly.

I'll agree with that. In the meantime while we wait for Apple to fix this (if they ever would), you can set what Safari uses for FTP with MisFox.
