Hi everyone,
there is a problem a friend of mine has. He just switched to OS X and he wants to use Mail.app full time. But there is a problem. He often gets huge pdf or jpeg or even tiff files and mail.app displays them instantly. This is brillant at first glance, but he just does not need them in Mail.app and this is extremely annoying if one gets about 20 pictures. So, is there an option to disable the display of attachments? I couldn't find one, but I thought you might be able to help out.

Greetings,
Ingmar

That's not exactly what I mean. For instance, I can still drag an image into an email I'm sending away, and the actual content is still displayed. But I don't want that. I want to be shown the name of the file and its icon. The same goes for all kinds of emails, not only HTML emails. It has to be possible.

If you attach a pdf file, instead of dragging it to the mail compose window, it will not display. naptahli's suggestion should work for received emails.

Acutally I'm pretty sure that only prevents linking to remote images. Any images that came attached to the message will display as soon as they're downloaded whether that pref is on or not.
