Hey all,

Im doing a semester worth of university exchange and I was wondering the best portable back up option. I have an external drive but dont wont to carry it with me.

I have an ibook with combo drive and access to a power book with a superdrive. Is there a utility that will let me copy my hard disk onto DVDs and then be able to restore my computer if something goes wrong while Im away?

Thanks in Advance,

tobes

You'd rather carry scratchable CDs or DVDs than a portable hard drive? That seems a bit crazy to me.

If you current external drive is too bulky, invest in a smaller, bus-powered one. That way you won't need to plug it into anything but the computer when you want to use it.

Well my portable is quite junky its not a svelte 2.5in portable but a chunky 3.5in one. Besides your answer doesnt really help me. Also if I could afford a small bus powered one I would get it.

Can anyone answer the question?

I don't know if this one will "really help you" but you have several options, at the top of my head...

1. swap the hard drives, i.e. put your HD into the PB, burn, swap back.

2. obtain Toast Titanium, connect (rendezvous-connect) the iBook and the PB, turn on Toast Anywhere to share the SuperDrive of the PB, burn away.

3. Connect them via Firewire. or ethernet (yawn).

4. Use Carbon Copy Cloner (see item 3.)
