Every once in a while I get a file named '0' (zero) with 0 bytes of content created in my root directory. Has anyone else seen this?
I added an 'add item' folder action to the folder to get notified when it happens, but I haven't been able to correlate a specific action that I am doing that causes it. It seems it may be some background application or daemon that is doing it.
Any ideas? Anyone know a way of identifying which process is writing this file?

I just noticed that, too. I'd be interested to hear about other people.
Do you use Gimp.app?

For me it only started appearing after updating my OSXvnc. I've always assumed it gets created when the vnc server is started (but never actually tested that theory).
Do you guys use OSXvnc?
I have used Gimp.app once or twice, but certainly not as often as the "0" file is created, so I don't think it's the culprit in my case. However, I do use X11 for various other things, including Solaris admin (the GUI just works better on Mac OS X than on Solaris).

That must be it. I've found it on my system, and then just recently on my girlfriend's. I put OSXvnc on her iBook just a week or so ago.
Thanks.

Ah, OSXvnc - that seems to be the common issue. I run Gimp and other X11 stuff, but that is not new for me. I did just install the latest OSXvnc, and that seems to correlate.
Maybe I'll look into their source a bit and see if I can find out what's doing that. At least I now know that it is not some kind of virus/trojan/attacker on my machine, which is one thing I was thinking.
Thanks.

I get this too, but for me it is not any of those apps. I think I've found for me, it is divX movies doing it. I simultaneously get a "0" file and a stream.dump that is a joined file of all divX movies I've played.
