my friend has 2 powerbooks (an alubook & a pismo);
her mailing list was "infected" by the beagle virus; we all got email from

her name@not her isp,

with a file attached.

i'm wondering, isnt this a windows only virus?
is it on her pb, or is it her isp that needs to deal with this?

any ideas...

thanx

The e-mail is from another infected user, not her PowerBook. Like most of these worms, it randomly picks two e-mails from an infected user's address book to use as the sender and recipient.

Most e-mail viruses forge the From address, using data gleaned from the Outlook address book to get usable addresses. This makes it harder to trace where the virus is coming from, because even if you know that a given person's computer is infected, the e-mail won't immediately look like it comes from that user.

Repeat after me: THERE ARE NO EMAIL VIRUSES FOR THE MAC!!

Also, NO viruses that infect Windows can infect Macs.

(Viruses that infect Microsoft Office are a different matter: those can infect Macs and PCs alike, because they're not infecting the operating system, but an application.)
