think this is an osx question...

have 2 macs on a network, sharing a filemaker file and word docs. (10.3.4)
when one user creates a word doc, she puts it in the public folder of user 2; it is then a "read-only" doc.

i changed permissions on the public folders to read&write for all users, but no difference.

i notice that the default user for that document on the second machine comes up "nobody".

any ideas? want to go back & forth with word documents...

Have the recipient duplicate the file. That person will then have edit rights to it.

will try that (monday).

no other way? seems the word doc could always be read&write for both users...

Set the permissions for the document?

That would work also. Permissions are editable from the Get Info dialog. The file's originator could set the permissions of the file to "read & write" and the rest of the work group could edit it as necessary.
