Anyone know what the opt directory that suddenly appeared on my drive is for?

A few packages use /opt for optional user installed items. Darwinports, for instance, creates and uses /opt. The Fink project creates the /sw directory for its packages. A benefit of this approach is that it makes it easy to identify additions and to remove if desired.

Check your logs and there will be an entry reporting the software that created /opt.

Did you install qemu or apache2? Look in the directory. That should give you a good idea where it came from.

There are three aliases in side:

libosp.3.dylib
libintl.1.dylib
libintl.3.dylib

any ideas?
