I'm trying to change and add some keyboard shortcuts using the Mouse & Keyboard preference panel. How to I enter the Command Key symbol?

Thanks

You just need to hit the "Command" key is all; however, the OS won't let you if that combo is already in use for other things, or that particular application won't allow it.

You'll just need to experiment with it to find out. If "Command" doesn't work, try using Option or Control or something with a letter...

When I try to enter the Command Key I just get a system alert sound and nothing is entered. It won't let me enter anything using the Command Key. I've tried other combinations and you are correct it won't let me enter a combination that is already in use. I can't even get that far as it doesn't enter anything when I hit the Command Key, just an alert sound.

Then you won't be allowed to use the "Command" key for what you are trying to do I suppose. I'd resort to another combo.

Do you have "Sticky Keys" turned on in the Universal Access preferences by any chance?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Nope, just checked and Sticky Keys is turned off. Should it be turned on for using the Keyboard & Mouse preference panel?

What language of keyboard do you have? And have you tried using both Command keys? ?

edit: you can't just have command and a letter - they're reserved for system use. Try command-shift-something or command-control-something.

Yes I have tried using both Command Keys, and even using them together, no difference, still get the system alert sound and nothing is shown in the shortcut box. I'm using the US keyboard as indicated in the International preference panel.

What shortcut are you trying to add?

I was trying to make it Command + = to make it consistent with AppleWorks which I use most of the time. Since that doesn't seem possible I've settled on the F12 key.
