how are you burning the cd's? are you just putting the aiff files onto a cd, or are you importing the aiff files into itunes and burning and audio cd from there, or are you using a different program? The cd-rw may be the problem, depending on how old your player is. Many newer players are capable of reading cd-rw's, but most older players will not work.

as above, most cd players will not play cdrws (only newer players might read them).
use cdrs, they will "lock" after writing and should work fine.

You should only use CDR media when burning music CDs. As other posters have pointed out most CD players can't handle CDRW media. And use either Toast or iTunes to burn them. These are the best tools, in my opinion.

There are two different formats for CD's (well, two that we will deal with here): audio CDs and data CDs.
Music CDs that you buy in the store are audio CDs. CDs that have computer files on them, such as the ones that you make by dragginf audio files to a CD in the Finder, are data CDs. To burn a CD that will play in a CD player, use iTunes or a similar program to burn the files as an audio CD.
As for whether using a CD-RW is a problem, you can always try it and see. Worst case you have to erase the CD0RW and use it for something else. Lots of newer CD players can handle CD-RWs (and are clearly marked as such), but some can't. Also, certain newer CD players, and most DVD players, can play a data CD that is filled with MP3s. I don't know if they support AIFF though, this would depend on the unit involved.

most consumer cd players do not play cdrws...
but burning a cd on your mac only requires the usual cdrs (cheaper than "music cds", which you only need for some consumer cd burners).
so...basic cdrs, cheap, will work.
