Hi! I am having some difficulties getting the Simple Finder to work correctly for my children.

I have set up a multi-user eMac. There is a limited (Simple Finder) account for each of three children. Using the limited selection, you are supposed to be able to select applications that the children can use.

Simple Finder isn't working as advertised!

Some applications that I have selected for the children to use, can't be started when they are logged in. Other programs run although they are not allowed to use it.

Could someone give me some tips on how this Simple Finder is supposed to work and how to debug this problems?

More details:
e.g. I have not allowed any child to use any internet application including Safari, iTunes etc. This is because I want to make sure that I am present when they go on the internet. No internet application is selected in the "allowed" applications in the User control panel in the System Prefs. iTunes seems to run regardless of being "allowed" or not.

On the other hand, there are some programs such as TuxTyping that I wish for the children to use. This program runs when I am logged in (admin acct.). I have tried to select this application in the User control panel in the System Prefs but each time I open the User control panel to check if the program stays selected, it is always "blank". So the application can't be run by the child.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Try this .. and remember also

Before & After any software update .. Repair permissions: Close all files and applications on the disk you want to repair. Go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and double click it. Then select your hard drive in the left panel and First Aid at the top. Then click on "Repair Permissions." It will take a few minutes.
