I made a dmg file from my os x install disc using disk utility. when it was done i was able to mount it and view its contents fine. then i burned it to a dvd and no matter what i cannot install using the new disc. the system will not boot from the disc holding C after restarting, all i get is a ? blinking system folder alert and it goes no further requiring a complete reboot. the disc doesn't show up as an option to boot from when holding the option key for bootable volumes either. if i mount the dmg file i can navigate the contents fine and the same with the cd after booting into os x. i click on the Install OS X icon and it only comes up with a choice to reboot but since the dmg unmounts upon a reboot it can't install off that and it can't boot from the newly burned copy for some reason. any ideas why this won't work? how does one install to an ipod? would i still need to boot from the burned disc to do this also? i thought it usually gives you an option to reboot and install onto various volumes...
thanks

Why don't you just use the original install disc?
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

I wonder if the permissions got changed when making the image or burning it to disk? I seem to remember something about Read-Only media having different permissions to allow any user to access.

If you use an iPod and use something like CarbonCopyCloner or dsync, it ensures the permissions are set properly so booting typically works.

i wanted a backup.
here's the weird thing;
I burned the first disc using toast 6 and got the above results. then i did the other three via disk utility's burn option and they work fine. so now i'm re-burning the first cd using disk utility instead. maybe i didn't select the correct options under toast? what should have been used then?
