Since Jaguar is the last supported OS on my Beige G3, and I need to be able to continue to upgrade Apache, PHP, MySQL, etc over the coming years, I am thinking that I might as well just install linux on my Beige G3 instead of patching Jaguar (which is a pain in the ass to install anyways since June 2003 up until then I had flawless installs from beta onwards I guess deciding to get a new Mac made it loose self confidence ).

I have decided on Debian since it's best for server OS. I only use my Beige G3 for Apache, PHP, MySQL, SSH, and AFP.

My specs are Beige G3 MT 266 Rev A, 80GB Maxtor, 768MB RAM, Radeon Mac:Edition, Asanta 100BaseT, SCSI internal Zip, 24x CD-ROM, and OrangeMicro USB/Firewire.

I need the 100BaseT ethernet, I heard that card is supported.

So what are the steps to get it installed? Does it install on one partition, or does it do septette system/apps/home/scratch/ (What's the fifth for again?). Once I got it installed I will use the system to backup my live server, my main mac, etc. Any parititon size limits? My Beige G3 will ONLY be running Debian. It will also be my linux learning machine since Apple cripples CLI on OS X

Thanks all

Also would like to hear from Debian on Beige G3 users (with system specs etc).

Beige G3 counts as an "old world Mac" in those docs. G'luck!

Up to you.

I put everything on one, myself. So two partitions, one for swap, and one for the rest.
