Beige G3 266Mhz
Mac OS X 10.2.8 (6R73)
Darwin Kernel Version 6.8
120 GB HD (2 Partitions)
Monitor: 17" Sony Multiscan200x

On my G3 the monitor suddenly goes to sleep.
Amber LED and black screen. All i can do is to reboot.
Energy Saver settings are all put to never go to sleep (disk and monitor).
I even tried to plug out all the peripherals (Canon i550 printer on
Adaptec USB2Connect 3100LP Adapter.) No change of situation.

This problems accures mostly during longer lasting actions like unstuffing,
or installing software. It seems to me like the monitor switches off
just shortly before finishing to unstuff or install (just before the progress bar
hits its goal)

Finally i found a stable crash!
It always happens when I run System Optimizer X 4.5.3 and let it
optimize my disk. The program works till a certain moment and then..
Black screen. The fan is still running. But no mouse movement
nor keystrokes wake the machine again.

I read about similar proplems in this forum. Advises like pluging off
peripherals or turning Energy Saving settings off did not work.
Waiting 3 minutes and longer was no help. Plugging keyboard out and in...
I did not try the advise to take the USB Card and/or additional RAM out.
Because users whose problems were solved doing this only reported
unexpected sleep when installing OS X.

Having the same problem. It started doing this a few days ago on a G3/300 mini tower, OS 10.2.8, 384 MB of ram. Any one have a solution for this.

Closest thing I have had to this is with my 19" NEC and my MDD. It only happened when I raised the resolution though, so did wither of you change resolutions. Going along with that depending on how hard the video card was working would determine how long it took before the image disappeared. In my case though I could just turn off the monitor and then right back on (and then lower the resolution). I do know that the beige G3's (or the apple monitors sold with them) had a problem with a specific resolution that would kill them as this happened to me a number of years ago. Good luck.
