(figure the mac osx forum geniuses could figure this out...)

using a (kensington) bluetooth mouse.
every time i wake from sleep, i get a translucent window with a mouse image and a message: "connection lost".

i got it after the first time; i need to "reconnect" the mouse. np.

but, i don't want to see that message 10 times a day. want to delete it, but cannot find it (have been on a package search)

any ideas anyone?

thanx!

I believe if you un-check "Discoverable" via the Bluetooth "Settings" tab of the System Preferences pane, those erroneous messages will go away...

gorickey, you answer all my questions (and probably should be charging a fee..)

BUT, discoverable is not on, never has been. i can't tell if this message is generated by the os, or kensington's software (but it looks like the apple mouse a bit)

it's like a message saying "you've just woken from sleep" coming on everytime i wake from sleep.

and it's probably hidden deep in a package somewhere... drat!

Okay, try deleting the following from:

Macintosh HD > System > Library > CoreServices > BezelUI > Images > btMouse.png

More likely than not it's in an english.lproj somewhere.

Why not get rid of the bezels all together though? They aren't necessary.

When you delete the bezelui folder the messages dissapear because you delete the bezelui program itself, which well, takes care of that.

Looking in the binary itself for something about connection lost found nothing, so ...

OH DUH!

You guys are in the wrong folder. I thought this changed from 10.2 but no...

The file you want to edit (this is long) is:

/system/library/loginplugins/bezelservices.loginplugin/contents/resources/english.lproj/localizable.strings

The easiest way, is to navigate to said folder, drag file to desktop (it'll make a copy), now edit out "Connection Lost" in Connfailed (make it a blank space), and then save.

Take said file and drag it into the original folder. Finder will ask you to authenticate and then you should be able to overwrite the original.

Make sure your permissions are completely open (777) on the file by hitting command I and checking the permissions.

The changes will take affect when you reboot or log out and in again.

I have a solution for you, this will definitly work...

Get rid of the BT mouse and use a USB mouse instead. E-mail me for my address to send the money to. Oh boy, 10 whole dollars. What should I get? j/k.

Screw the 10 bucks. I answered a question that most people outside of apple's HQ probably wouldn't know the answer to

But that's because back in the 10.2 days I was an avid system hacker. Well not break into others' machines, I just became really familiar with OS X.

I used to use custom bezels for stuff like volume, so the bezel editing was right up my alley

Admittedly I've spent my time playing around with OS X. From running apache 2 with php5 (not that hard), using 10.2 drivers on 10.3 (that was fun, it disabled quartz extreme!!), and changing around various other programs..

So um anyway, hope it all works for ya Let us know already! I've been waiting all night

Getting rid of the text from that localizable.strings file will get rid of the text; however, I believe you'll get a plain white box (in replace of the bezel) that will become annoying. You'll have to test that out...

so...the results. (drumroll...)

worse, a white box with "connection failed"!

apple is way ahead of the game, i guess.

am keeping the original image & warning, for now.

thanks link, gorickey.

i coulda done this blindfolded in os9; this is a little trickier.

still, panther rocks, and bluetooth mousing....love it.

That's what I thought...

Yeah, it sounds like the only way is to just get rid of all the bezels in general, which to me, are not needed and just eye-candy anyway...

Darn my next suggestion would have been a blank (black) PNG.. after all apple was able to make the box have clear areas this way, why can't you?

Or however it's done... that would have been a way

Odd that removing the part in localizable.strings STILL shows the text. Did you make sure to logout/in to make sure that went through? Weeeird..

Even if he gets the text removed, the white box will continue to display though...that is, until he removes the BezelUIServer.
