I reinstalled 10.2.7 on my G5 (because of a bad 10.3.5 upgrade). Now the computer boots into a login screen I've never seen before. It has my name as an account, but it requires a password. I don't know what the password is! It won't let me in.

What do I do?

Huh? Why did you install Jaguar after a bad Panther upgrade?

If you boot from the system install CD you have a reset password command in the Installer's application menu. You can use that to reset the password.

Because Panther wouldn't install (for reasons I won't get into here).

I'm new to this - what do I do now???? Please don't point out how stupid this was, I'm just trying to fix a bad 10.3.5 update.

re-read the post above yours - it tells you to boot from the install cd and use the reset password utility...

Yep, tried that and it worked. Downgrading to 10.2.7 fixed all my problems. Now I just need to upgrade to 10.3.4.
