How do i have my HD available space displayed under my Macintosh HD icon

In Finder, hit Apple-J. Click on Show Item Info

the only problem with that [@ least in my case, and with my external firewire HD] is that the space doesn't automatically update.

it only updates when you restart your computer and the GUI loads up for the 1st time.

I've seen plug-ins at VT and macupdate that are supposed to refresh the Finder, but I've never used them.
