What are you trying to install? Is there an installer included? Is there a file called "configure" and/or "Makefile"?

More details?

You need to provide more information.
Never heard of exec files before, can you describe what it is?

Macromedia Studio MX and the directory structure includes directories for the respective applications, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash....

But in the home directory of Macromedia Studio MX, there is a file that is called "Install Macromedia Studio MX"...

any help would be greatly appreciated..

what happens when you click on "Install Macromedia Studio MX"? If this is a legit copy, the installer should not be an exec file.

Do the following and post the complete filename here!
Mark the "Install Macromedia Studio MX" file and press Apple + i, then open the "Name & Extension" option and post the full filename here...

sorry guys.. the whole file name is "Install Macromedia Studio MX" and that's it..

I think the file has the "executable" bit marked almost like a shell script.

What has happened most likely is that this file was transferred in a fashion where HFS metadata is not supported. If this file was ever transferred to a non-Mac computer, this would do it.

You're going to have to find out the type and creator codes of the original file, or get this person who sent you the file to zip/stuff it and transfer it again.

If anybody here knows what kind of installer Macromedia uses for Studio MX we could help you change the T&C codes (or add a file extension that would make the file type recognizable)

I'm assuming this is not a legit copy.

If this is indeed the case, the installer probably had the resource fork stripped off. I doubt that setting the correct type and creator would help in this situation.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

I doubt it would launch without its resources. Classic and CFM apps are pretty dependent on the resource fork.

Besides, he probably pirated the stuff anyway. If he were a legitimate owner of the software, he could just run the installer from the original CD.

Could it be .exe and he's trying to install some dodgy Windows version on the Mac?
