I just got a Dual 2ghz G5 (the older version with the Radeon card). It has 1.5gb of ram and is running 10.3.5. For some reason, certain parts of Exposé are really choppy. The main time I notice it is when I do the "all windows" function then select a window. Everything jumps back in and I get maybe 2 or 3 frames for the entire animation of the windows growing, even with as few as 5 windows open.

Is this normal? Is there anything I can do about this?

Well I can tell you it's not normal. Expose is always smooth on my dual 867 unless I have a ridiculous number of windows open (20+). So something is up.

As for fixing it, well repair permissions, run disk utility from the installer disk (or boot into single user mode with apple-s and then run fsck -f). Failing that, do an archive and install. These solutions tend to fix most things as long as it's not hardware related.

Did you check what the cpu usage is when this occurs? Possibly you have a process consuming more than it should.

Exposé is smooth on my 400mhz cube, let alone my faster computers. Something is amiss and it is not normal.

I have the same experience. I think you have 20-or 23" display. Am I right?

If you using your Mac 1680*1050, or 1920*1200, Expose a little bit choppy.. I have a few G5, and all do the same thing with Cinema HD display.

I have Radeon 9800pro, Dual 2GHz, 2 gig ram...

On my 867 MHz Powerbook, expose run smoothly...

I've noticed this in the Apple stores. It seems since the card is driving such a huge resolution, Exposé framerates take a little hit. Nothing too terrible, though, and it doesn't affect productivity or anything.

according to anandtech, more memory on the graphics card is the factor that helps most.

Same here. I was not impressed with Exposé or even the minimization. The 20" screen on the other hand....

I imagine so, since it will have much more memory to drive the resolution and deal with windowing. I wouldn't mind playing with a 256MB 6800 Ultra or 9800 XT to see how that assumption holds up.
