You need to rename the file to php.ini. php.ini.default is like 'hosts.sam' on Windows -- edit/save it with a different name to get started

This should probably go in the "server" forum BTW.

Assuming you have the machine on and the locate database is up to date, you can find it via the command line using the command:

locate php.ini
