Hello there:

I am actually posting this for a friend of mine who just recently found out that she's being deployed to Iraq in November. She'd like to be able to use iChat to video chat with people back in the States, and I told her that I knew of a place where I could probably get that information (I'm referring to the MacNN forums, of course).

Does anyone know, for a FACT, if AirPort/ Mac OS 10.3 compatible wireless internet connections are available to the GIs in Iraq, and if SO, if video iChat communications are allowed to go through?

Please let me know if you know the answer is YES or NO. If audio is allowed to go through, but not video, I'd like to know that, too.

Thank you very much,
Mark.

Don't know about bringing your own computer and connecting to the Internet over in Iraq. I have a friend over in Iraq right now who uses the Army's computers to login to AIM. He states his Internet connection is through satellite and that most of the time it is really slow.

Satellite connections also have very high latency and usually don't have very good upstream. Even if it was possible, it'd probably be pretty unusable.

...thank you both for your sincerity, but your comments are very speculative. I am hoping to hear from someone who was there, and either DID, or did NOT, get it working.
