I am currently running 10.3.4 and just purchased my 12-inch PB recently. I was considering updating the software when I noticed that some people had problems when they updated to 10.3.5. I'm really new to OS X still. So my question is did anyone have problems hardware and software wise when they update to 10.3.5? Thanks for any help.

I've had no problems, but my machines are towers, so might not be the standard you want to judge by. My friend got the 12" pb with combo a month or so ago, and as far as I know he's had no problems with 10.3.5

Upgrade by all means. However, use the COMBO updater. It correct a multitude of issues that can crop up with the incremental updaters. Also, make sure you prepare your HD for the update.

1 - run either Cocktail, OnyX or Panther Cache Cleaner to clean out the various cache and archived log files.
2 - run DeLocalizer to remove the unneeded language modules. I saved 900+MB the first time I ran it. It will run under Panther.
3 - run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions after running the update.

Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

Battery life on my iBook dropped down to 1.9 Ah from 2.5 Ah the first time I ran my battery low after updating. I can't link it deffinately to 10.3.5, and I haven't come across anyone else with a similar problem, so all I can do is grumble about it and wait for 10.3.6.

I live under the rock and am having a ball 14 months ago I bought a G4 PM that came with 10.2.6. It has been extremely stable. I figure, if this works so very well, how can any update improve upon what I already have? All I gain by updating is risking something going wrong.

Part of the drive to update is based upon the materialistic craving to have more, to have the latest, to have the so called "best". At times the "best" is what we already have.

I may be living under a rock, but it's a happy, stable existence!

I know people keep saying this, but why? In three years of using OS X, I've never repaired permissions after installing an update, and haven't had any problems yet. Perhaps it would make more sense to repair the permissions if you're having a problem, not to make it part of this strict regimen?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

My PBG4 1.5GHz has been hissing or playing distorted audio from one channel since I went from 10.3.4 to 10.3.5. Seems to be reasonably isolated, though.

Just passing on info from more enlightened users:

Granted you don't always have to repair, but it's a good idea based on other's history and experience.

So is using paper and pencil, but... Jag is a great OS and Panther is even better. Stick your head out a bit and see what's outside :-D

I agree with this one. I have repaired permissions once or twice.
